Wednesday 20th July at 7.30pm, St Michael’s Lectures.
The topic is “Eastern Orthodoxy, the Great & Holy Council, and the Challenge of Religious Plurality.” This Lecture will be given by Fr Peter Scorer, Protodeacon of the Parish of the Holy Prophet Elias, Exeter.
The long-planned Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox churches is getting under way in Crete; despite the absence of a number of churches over un-resolved differences. It is the first Holy and Great Council of the self-governing Orthodox churches in more than 1,000 years. The last recognised Council took place in AD787.
Unfortunately, our original speaker, Dr Brandon Gallagher, has had to withdraw; but we are fortunate to have found another well-qualified speaker to talk on the same subject – Orthodoxy & Plurality.
(Dr Brandon Gallagher is Lecturer in Systematic and Comparative Theology at the University of Exeter, who has visited and studied at St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in New York.)
Everyone is warmly welcomed to the St Michael’s Lectures and admission is FREE (with a voluntary retiring collection). They are followed by discussion and light refreshments, and are held in St. Michael’s Church.
