In place of Tuesday Vespers, the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament holds its monthly Mass with a timely commemoration of St Ninian (c.360-432AD). All Welcome.
The earliest known Scottish saint, Bishop Ninian founded the first monastery in Scotland at Whithorn in the territory of the Picts (now Dumfries & Galloway) in AD397. Ninian was probably a Briton, and seems to have been a member of the Roman Church, perhaps after receiving training in Rome, rather than the Celtic Church with its strong ties to Ireland. He was the first to take the Christian faith north of Hadrian’s Wall at a time when most of the Caledonian Tribes were still pagan.
