Saturday 12th December at 7.30pm, Exeter Chorale, conducted by Dr Nigel Browne (organist at St Michael’s), presents an exciting programme of seasonal music on the theme of Images of the Incarnation – Mary as Spotless Rose, Jesus as Branch of Jesse, and the like.
We will compare and contrast pieces of Early Music (15th and 16th century) by Dufay, Binchois, Jacob Handl, Clemens non Papa and John Sheppard, with more modern treatments of similar ideas by composers like Tchaikovsky, Howells, Richard Rodney Bennett, Elizabeth Poston and the late David Willcocks. The concert will end with a 16th century Magnificat by Gombert.
A recorder consort will also perform.
Admission price £8 including seasonal refreshments; students £5, children free.
The programme will also be performed in Topsham Methodist Church, on Thursday 10th December at 7.30pm.
Exeter Chorale is a chamber choir, and always looking to recruit new voices.
We rehearse on Monday evenings from 7.30-9.15pm at St Michael’s, Mount Dinham.
Rehearsals for our Summer Concert will resume in February.
