On the evening of Monday 14th July 2014, the church of St Michael and All Angels, Mount Dinham, Exeter will be holding a competition for young organists open to all people aged 21 and under, to celebrate the installation of a new pipe organ at St Michael’s, to encourage the playing of the organ by young people, and to raise the profile of the instrument in the South-West musical world.
For the competition, candidates will be asked to play a short selection of pieces, of their own choice, but subject to guidelines ensuring a reasonable variety. They will play to a panel of three judges, Devon organists Jonathan Watts, Andrew Daldorph and Neil Page. Prizes include the opportunity to perform in Exeter Cathedral, slots in our local St Michael’s recital series, free lessons with Cathedral organists Andrew Millington and David Davies, and music vouchers.
All organists aged 21 or under are warmly invited to apply for this event. For a full description of the event, and the application form, contact music@stmichaelsmountdinham.org.uk Applications are invited up to Sat 7 June.
