Music
Music is integral to the life and worship at St Michael’s. Choral and organ music is interwoven with the liturgy to create a spiritual encounter with mystery and beauty.
Services are sung by an SATB robed Choir and led by an experienced music team. The choir’s repertoire spans over six centuries and is characterised particularly by the use of plainsong, English and European Renaissance polyphony and music of the Anglican choral revival from the past 150 years.
The current music list for choral services is here and linked below.
St Michael’s Mount Dinham is well known for the ancient office of Tenebrae, sung on Good Friday evening from the West Gallery. Other key Festivals include Candlemas, the Easter Vigil, Ascension Day, Corpus Christi, Michaelmas, All Saint’s Day, All Souls’ Day, the Advent Procession, and Midnight Mass.
St Michael’s unmatched acoustic and the beautiful interior of the church make it a very rewarding and generous place to sing. It is a popular venue for choirs, ensembles, orchestras and soloists for performance, workshops, teaching, rehearsals and recordings. The lofty building was designed to have a very fine acoustic, enhancing the natural human voice and creating a beautiful sonority to rival any other in the south west of England.
